Working independently, the Principal Functional Analyst is responsible for translating the business requirements of our customers and is a subject matter expert in SAP functional areas.  This role will report into the IT Merchandizing group and be responsible for design, development, and test of the various master data functions.



  • Research, recommend and develop functional solution design; define business processes, improvements, and business objectives with focus on SAP capabilities and integration points
  • Map the solution to business requirements according to standards and program principles
  • Must analyze current needs, anticipate future needs and provide solutions integrating various business operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of/experience with SAP master data and concepts across Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP) modules
  • Lead a master data team focused on conducting master data updates (Article, Site, Taxes, Fees and others) as needed by the business using mass update tools including Winshuttle or Innowera or BODS or similar software, including but not limited to LSMW.
  • Develop and maintain mass maintenance scripts using Winshuttle or similar software, including script and Excel template development, file management/version control, and general technical support.
  • Lead other functional analysts and work with MDM/data quality lead to ensure master data integrity and data quality in key systems is aligned to approved data standards and business rules.
  • Have a good functional understanding and hands-on experience with SAP Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP) master data and downstream usage in Sales and Distribution (SD) and Finance (FI) transactions
  • Demonstrate excellent Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, macros, etc).
  • Design solutions with robust end to end capabilities specifically
  • Collect, document and analyze new large and/or complex work requests to determine sizing and approach for potential solutions
  • Assist Leadership in prioritizing work requests, bug fixes and other initiatives as necessary
  • Consistently provide and vet options as necessary for solutions that address requirements as well as non-functional requirements while adhering to best practices around standardization, scalability and usability
  • Must be able to clearly articulate complex concepts and ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuade others. As a subject matters expert in SAP propose solutions, identify cross functional dependencies and demonstrate the ability to drive problems to closure
  • Lead the request and analysis phases of the SDLC to assess preliminary requirements, estimate effort and provide input to project prioritization
  • Lead concurrent projects with cross functional teams, business leaders and third-party vendors. Facilitate requirement workshops and status meetings to ensure consensus among all project stakeholders
  • Maximize the amount of standard processes vs custom coding in solution assessment and alternatives
  • Consider capacity limitation and operations times; collaborates with IT resources
  • Design solutions with robust end to end capabilities specifically
  • Consider user impact, capabilities, limitation and adoption; collaborates with business process owners and Subject Matter Experts (SME)
  • Build, configure or partner with development to deliver and unit test quality and efficient functionality
  • Provide solutions with capability to restart/recover seamlessly with monitoring controls and escalation points-built in
  • Provide knowledge transfer to End Users, Support Team and Testing as necessary during for any functional remediation, change, enhancement or break fix
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Areas of Responsibility for their respective product organization
  • Provide documentation as necessary for the solution including but not limited to Business Process Design (BPD) Documents, Functional Specifications (F-Specs), End User System Procedures, End-to-end Business Process flows, User Stories, Knowledge Article and Deployment Scripts
  • Provide support for functions as necessary including supporting junior resources, business support, root cause analysis and corrective remediation for escalated problems and incidents
  • Provide mentoring and cross-training to other team members to ensure appropriate knowledge transfer occurs within the team and related business areas
  • Review deliverables of junior team members and provide training and guidance to ensure quality results
  • Stays current on the latest industry technologies, trends and strategies
  • Provide a can-do attitude with a pragmatic balance of velocity, quality, best practices and prioritization
  • Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service

Job Requirements


  • This position requires a minimum of 8 years of SAP system specific configuration and implementation experience.
  • Preferred 10 or more years of configuration experience with SAP in one or more of SAP’s functional components, along with subject matter expert in more than one functional area
  • Experience in master data management, and knowledge of the key concepts of master data management, data governance, data standards and data management organizations.
  • Experience in using, developing, and supporting Winshuttle or similar, scripts with Excel templates.
  • Proven history of increasing responsibility and upward mobility in previous technical and functional roles
  • Demonstrated expert level knowledge of SAP and business processes
  • Demonstrated expert level SAP application knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAP integration points for transactional and master data
  • Demonstrated expert understanding of SPAU/SPDD, Business Rules Framework, RICEFS, patches, upgrades and support packs
  • Demonstrated understanding of SAP technologies including SLT, ALE, EDI, IDOCs, Fiori, BAPIs, RFCs and WebDynPro
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with business stakeholders and other IT areas
  • Understand project plans, work within established priorities, adhere to project and task assignments to support project goals and timelines
  • Leadership experience to manage projects of medium complexity that involve interfaces and integrations between SAP and other third-party solutions is preferred
  • Possess technical skills to work with SAP tables, SAP queries, data transfer and SAP debugging
  • Stays current with IT industry trends and emerging technologies, suggests and leads application of new technologies
  • Drives business process improvement by the identification of value-added enhancements
  • Ability to work independently and in a team is vital. Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, meet deadlines and present a professional demeanor is essential.  Proven ability to respond to different organizational situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude is necessary
  • In addition, organizational and problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to adjust to changing requirements are essential


Educational Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field or equivalent work experience.

SAP certifications are preferred.



Normal workdays are Monday through Friday.  Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.


Work Hours:

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (Arizona time).  Additional hours may be necessary.
