The Role

Discount Tire is seeking a transformative, people-first leader to serve as the Assistant Vice President of Data Science, BI & Strategic Insights. In this high-impact role within our Enterprise Data Office (EDO), you will drive the "offensive" data strategy for a $10B enterprise.

Your mission is to relentlessly optimize our core business through advanced data science, pioneer new revenue streams via data monetization, and completely modernize our Business Intelligence function. You must be a forward-thinking visionary who anticipates market shifts, incorporating smart technology and AI-driven solutions to keep the organization at the cutting edge. Most importantly, you are a leader who builds deeply collaborative, high-performing teams that empower the entire enterprise to make smarter, faster decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Science Productization & Smart Innovation

  • Expand advanced ML/AI products and solutions to optimize $10B in core business operations (e.g., pricing, supply chain, customer churn).
  • Identify, validate, and launch data monetization opportunities to create new revenue streams beyond the core business.
  • Research and incorporate forward-thinking "smart technologies" (GenAI, Predictive Analytics, automation) to solve complex business problems proactively.
  • Oversee the end-to-end model lifecycle to ensure data science solutions are robust, scalable, and integrated into daily workflows.

2. Modern Business Intelligence & Democratization

  • Transform the BI function from a reactive "report factory" into a proactive "insights engine" focused on real-time, diagnostic, and predictive reporting.
  • Architect a self-service BI framework and semantic layer, empowering business users across the enterprise to safely build their own data narratives.
  • Incorporate augmented analytics and AI-integrated features into dashboards to enable automated anomaly detection and natural language querying.
  • Champion a culture of "storytelling over stats," ensuring all BI products are consumer-grade and lead with clear, actionable business recommendations.

3. Proactive Insights & Competitive Analysis

  • Level up the insights organization to proactively drive intelligence rather than reacting to historical requests.
  • Build and lead a robust competitive analysis unit to provide executive leadership with early warning signals on market shifts and competitor strategies.
  • Translate complex quantitative findings into compelling, executive-ready narratives that influence the C-suite and Board of Directors.

4. Cultural Maturation & Governance Partnership

  • Act as the chief evangelist for maturing the organization's data-driven decision-making culture and improving enterprise data literacy.
  • Partner with the Head of Data Governance to champion the use of governed, high-quality data assets, ensuring "one version of the truth."
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure ethical AI usage and strict adherence to data privacy standards in all analytical products.

Leadership Philosophy: The Service-Oriented Servant Leader

We are looking for a leader who recognizes that algorithms and dashboards don't win-teams do. Your mandate is to operate the insights function as a premier internal service provider.

  • People-First Growth: You gain far more professional satisfaction from seeing your team members grow, promote, and succeed than from your own individual accolades.
  • Win As a Team: You thrive in a highly collaborative environment, effortlessly breaking down silos to work across all lines of business.
  • Customer Service Excellence: You treat internal stakeholders as valued clients, maintaining a high bar for responsiveness, empathy, and solution-oriented delivery.

The Strategic Triad

You will sit at the heart of a powerful collaborative triangle within the Enterprise Data Office, partnering daily with two key peers to execute the CDO's vision:

  1. Director of Data Technology: You partner to ensure the "pipes" (engineering, platforms, cloud architecture) reliably support your advanced "engines" (models, BI, and insights).
  2. Head of Data Governance & Privacy: You collaborate to ensure all insights and smart solutions are built on a foundation of high-quality, ethical, and compliant data, embedding "Privacy by Design" into everything you build.

Top Priorities

  • Modernize the data and analytics ecosystem to enable scalable, realtime, AIpowered insights across a $10B enterprise.
  • Advance AIdriven storytelling to transform dashboards into clear, actionable narratives that influence executive and operational decisionmaking.
  • Deliver personalized, rolebased insights that proactively support business leaders and embed analytics into daily workflows.
  • Lead with a peoplefirst mindset, building trust, engagement, and career growth within highperforming data and insights teams.
  • Drive crossenterprise collaboration, partnering with technology, governance, and business leaders to unlock shared value from data.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years in Data Science, BI, and Analytics, with 6+ years in a senior leadership role within a $1B+ enterprise.
  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, CS) or an MBA with a strong technical background.
  • Proven track record of linking data science and BI initiatives to measurable P&L impacts and new revenue generation.
  • Deep familiarity with the modern data stack, AI/ML orchestration, and deploying smart tech into production.
  • Demonstrated servant leadership, exceptional cross-functional collaboration, and a relentless focus on internal customer service.
