What’s the role?

The leader of Inventory Management is responsible for the strategies and execution of the following in support of the entire Discount Tire Inventory System including all Stores and Distribution Centers for merchandising and some non-merchandising products.  Functionally this leader is responsible for the following:


  • Demand planning and forecasting
  • Replenishment
  • Inventory solutions


What we’ll entrust you to do:

Execution of these support functions will deliver these critical success factors/KPI’s in support of the business:

  • Customer in stock fill rates
  • Demand forecasting accuracy
  • Inventory productivity/Turns
  • Inventory valuations, obsolescence, inventory health
  • Days of Supply/Weeks of Supply
  • Customer Service to Stores/Distribution Centers and Vendor communities


Additional areas of responsibility include:

  • People management
  • Individual and departmental goal setting and execution
  • Associate and departmental moral
  • Career planning and development for associates
  • Execution of systems and reporting/analytics
  • Work cross functional in Product and other Discount Tire departments to drive 1DT solutions and enhanced service
  • Crossdock volume/vendor billing plan execution
  • Programs, Events, and Seasonality profiles and execution
  • Store capacity management tied to fill rates
  • Manage projects to deliver sales increases, better customer experiences and cost out
  • Budgeting/Planning
  • Article system maintenance, classification and parameter setting
  • Communication up, down and across the organization and outside vendors

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with division leaders in key functions such as Buying, Merch Planning & Allocation, and Supply Chain to gather and refine strategic inputs that drive divisional inventory & replenishment strategies
  • Develop and improve upon analytics methodologies and models to support decision-making around assortment optimization, inventory productivity and replenishment strategy, and size and pack optimization
  • Lead a data and analytics team to optimize large, multi-faceted, and disparate datasets into actionable insights surrounding inventory productivity and profitability
  • Coach and guide direct reports to drive richer insights from modeling. Leverage exploratory and scenario forecasting to shape operational planning and analysis
  • Communicate insights to cross-functional decision makers, prompting inventory management decisions that help drive operational efficiency and profitability
  • Spearhead the development of metrics and insight-driven tools and dashboards that monitor and quantify the impact of decisions and plans
  • Contribute innovative and strategic ideas to help shape the team’s ability to drive impact across the organization
  • Play an active role in coaching, training, culture building direct reports

Job Requirements


  • 10+ years executive leadership roles in Finance or Inventory Planning in large retail environment with a minimum of 250 stores
  • Strong communication, listening, and presentation skills
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, deliver strategy and execute business plans to desired outcomes
  • Other Skills:
    • Understanding of big data and analytics principles
    • Deep understanding of the value drivers underpinning the inventory, vendor, supply chain and retail ecosystem
    • Familiarity with scenario, comparative, and benchmarking analysis
    • Knowledge of statistical distributions and predictive modeling techniques
    • Understanding of data analysis/visualization, business case development, and KPI identification and tracking
    • Ability to manage and execute large projects from start to finish including project management, data gathering and modeling, problem solving and communicating recommendations
    • Effective collaboration skills, including cross-functional engagement
    • People leadership
    • Ability to prioritize initiatives and manage simultaneous projects within a complex organization
