We are currently looking for a Content Specialist to join our growing Omni Channel Department at Discount Tire’s Corporate Headquarters in North Scottsdale, Arizona. Under general supervision, this position writes, ideates, develops and designs content and communication collateral to support our external web properties. An ideal candidate will be comfortable with and responsible for creating and maintaining written and visual content for discounttire.com and its affiliated websites.

 

We are effectively looking for a strong writer with a keen editorial eye who relishes getting their hands dirty within the confines of complex CMS systems.

 

While a secondary component of this position revolves around having a solid functional understanding of on-page SEO, the emphasis of this position revolves around content ownership. An inquisitive writer who is able to turn jargon into palatable content both for human and search engine bot audiences will thrive in this position.

Working experience in a traditional newsroom, on a dedicated creative team or as a successful freelance writer should provide the requisite amount of organizational skills and experience when it comes to envisioning what joining the Omni Channel department at Discount Tire could be like.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, writes, edits, proofreads and researches content for use on our web properties; including but not limited to: call-to-action statements, headlines, graphics, images, and meta descriptions – with on-page SEO best practices seamlessly integrated into your production-ready work. 

  • Maintains promotion content and promotion schedule; communicates schedule and content to stakeholders.
  • Assists content team lead in maintenance of inventory listings, promotion scheduling, website hero image copy.
  • Administers product display rules for web sites; collaborates with Product Marketing and Development (PM&D) to determine display schedule.
  • Develops and maintains templates and style guides to deliver a consistent look and feel across all web communication channels.
  • Maintains store and regional page listings across web properties, with an eye for local SEO where applicable.
  • Solicits ideas, information and material from corporate and regional stakeholders in order to develop communication materials and strategies to reach targeted audiences. 

  • Delivers high quality work effectively and efficiently through formal and informal channels; displays broad understanding of our products and culture.
  • Maintains web properties overall, including but not limited to updating copy, images, announcements, 
events, promotions and lists.
  • Ability to optimize copy and landing pages for search engine friendliness both on at-a-glance and more in-depth levels.
  • Audits web site enhancements for quality assurance and user experience.
  • Works with UX Design team to implement new content pages.
  • Stays current on the latest industry technologies, trends, strategies and best practices.
  • Maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers. 

  • Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • This position requires a minimum of three years of copywriting and digital content development experience; preferably in an in-house capacity for a multi-site ecommerce company or organization.
  • Submission of a portfolio of your published clippings, website, or selected campaign examples that display a diverse representation of your writing experience.
  • Strong and adaptable writing skills with the ability to write professionally for numerous tones and outcomes. Creating useful, relevant and engaging content with clear methodologies that provide opportunities to drive measurable success in organic traffic with minimal oversight is a priority. 

  • Experience with A/B and multivariate experiments.
  • Experience with web analytics tools.
  • The ability to perform topic-level keyword research.
  • Experience with complex CMS systems, specifically with ecommerce inventory and listing management.
  • Proven proofing and editing skills with superior knowledge of grammar and AP style.
  • Ability to write for a variety of tones, from highly technical documentation to consumer-facing marketing copy.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization; present complex ideas concisely and clearly articulate ideas verbally and in writing as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet various
deadlines simultaneously is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, including skills with Word, Excel and PowerPoint is necessary.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and Photoshop preferred.
  • Troubleshooting, organizational and problem solving skills along with a can-do attitude and the ability to adjust to changing requirements are essential.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and upholding company values are paramount to success in this position.

 

Education Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in journalism, creative writing, marketing, digital culture, mass communication or a related field, or equivalent experience.

 

Work Days:

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.

 

Work Hours:

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime (more than forty hours per week) may be necessary.
