The Data Scientist II identifies use cases from business partners, analyzes and mines very large quantities of data, develops predictive models that solve complex problems, and presents findings to Directors and other management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently builds and validates predictive models of a known issue without a defined solution, utilizing large scale data from multiple data sources and ensuring adoption of the model. Drives continuous improvement to existing models and reviews other Data Scientist and Data Scientists' models.
- Uses machine learning techniques to create data-driven solutions for various business use-cases.
- Understands business needs and identifies potential use cases in more than one business unit. Works with external partners to develop a minimal viable product to meet those needs while resolving any issues that may arise.
- Analysis and mining of very large quantities of data using a deep knowledge of a specific domain to find patterns and insights utilizing statistical software
- Writes code for the scope of work being done. Assists in development of data science standards for the department.
- Collaborates with technology partners to investigate new data sources. Analyzes new data sources for availability and quality, and integrates with existing database. Performs data cleaning and data analysis.
- Interprets, communicates, and presents analytic results to Director-Level executives and below.
- Consistently collaborates with fellow data scientists and frequently interacts with business partners, project managers, cross-functional teams, key stakeholders, and other domains to build analytics capabilities and drive business value.
- Mentors and assists in technically supervising less experienced Data Scientists. Continually strengthens knowledge of analytical methods, vendors, and tools and shares knowledge by participating in best practice sharing opportunities
- May also include other duties as needed such as design of experiments.

Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of 5+ years of data science experience.
- Experience applying statistical techniques in 2+ business units or domains (marketing, pricing, supply chain, operations, etc.)
- Intermediate skill in Machine Learning
- 3 years of programming experience in statistical software (for example Python, R, or SAS) and able to demonstrate proficiency at an intermediate level. Python is preferred
- Ability to work with large data sets from multiple data sources
- Ability to communicate complex analytics concepts and techniques to Director-Level and below
- Ability to work collaboratively with other data scientists and multiple stakeholders across the business unit and with external partners
- Intellectual curiosity, a passion for data and a results orientation
Educational Requirements:
This position requires a Master's degree in a quantitative field including but not limited to data science, analytics, and statistics
Work Days:
Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
Work Hours:
Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary.

- Defines business problems and research questions; solves highly complex work critical to the organization in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Integrates and extracts relevant information from large amounts of both structured data; and internal and external unstructured data to enable analytical solutions.
- Conducts advanced analytics leveraging predictive modeling, machine learning, data mining, data visualization, simulation, and optimization; interprets disparate data/ complex data sets/ structured and unstructured data and other techniques to deliver insights or develop analytical solutions to achieve business objectives.
- Develops scalable, efficient, automated solutions for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation.
- Prepares and manipulates data for use in development of statistical models.
- Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions; summarizes and presents conclusions and solutions.
- Translates complex analytical and technical concepts to non-technical employees; translates into business contexts which then enables stakeholders to make informed business decisions.
- Identifies critical and emerging technologies that will support and extend quantitative analytic capabilities.
- Provides training and guidance to analytics staff.
- Stays current on the latest industry technologies, trends and strategies.
- Assists employees, vendors or other customers by answering questions related to Data Science processes, procedures and services.
- Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.

Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of five years of progressive business intelligence analytics designing, building, and implementing business solutions using information technology.
- Experience developing predictive mathematical models is necessary including but not limited to, algorithm development and logic is necessary.
- Domain knowledge in retail, manufacturing, store operations, automotive, real estate, or services is helpful.
- Business acumen knowledge and understanding of business operations, challenges/ issues, priorities, goals and strategy is required.
- Demonstrated strong quantitative analysis experience working with large, complex datasets to aggregate, organize, and prepare data for use in business analytics is required.
- Experience with data integration, profiling, cleansing and normalization: structured, unstructured, 3rd party is necessary.
- Strong proficiency with data visualization techniques is necessary.
- Proven knowledge of statistical analysis and insights, including but not limited to, cluster analysis and data mining is needed.
- Machine learning and AI, including image recognition experience preferred. Ability to frame solutions to complex problems is vital.
- Previous experience working with Digital data assets, such as, CRM: Customer behavior and sentiment, and the impact of marketing and merchandizing on the web is necessary.
- Experience with Econometrics, including but not limited to, price elasticity modeling; pricing and promotions is preferred.
- Experience with simulation, network optimization, and workflow analysis is preferred.
- Strong ability to take initiative and find problems or solutions that have yet to be considered is needed.
- Knowledge of various databases with the ability to code in Python R and SQL is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization is necessary; must be able to clearly articulate technical ideas to a non-technical audience both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and in a team is vital.
- The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines simultaneously is required.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet deadlines, present a professional demeanor and work well independently is essential.
