IT Security Administrator I

Under direct supervision, the IT Security Administrator I supports Discount Tire's Cyber Defense team by monitoring security platforms, identifying and triaging threats, and assisting with incident response activities across corporate, store, and cloud environments. This role helps ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data by leveraging our enterprise security tools and established processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Security Monitoring & Threat Detection
    • Monitor security alerts and telemetry across enterprise security tools, including SIEM, endpoint protection, cloud security platforms, and MDR solutions.
    • Identify potential intrusion attempts and suspicious behavior; analyze and validate basic security events; escalate complex incidents to senior team members.
  • Incident Response Support
    • Follow established incident response procedures to document findings, actions taken, and progress throughout the lifecycle of security incidents.
    • Provide timely status updates to stakeholders and assist with final incident reporting.
    • Support communication efforts during highpriority or enterpriseimpacting security incidents.
  • Vulnerability & Risk Management
    • Review vulnerability scan results, prioritize issues based on risk, and collaborate with IT partners to track and support remediation.
    • Validate completion of remediation tasks and ensure security gaps are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Security Tool & Log Analysis
    • Analyze anomalies across firewalls, proxies, endpoint tools, cloud platforms, logging pipelines, and other security systems to identify abnormal patterns or exposures.
    • Recommend changes or improvements to strengthen security configurations and reduce risk.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Support
    • Work closely with IT teamsincluding Cloud Engineering, Endpoint Management, Networking, IAM, and Application teamson incident investigations, system changes, and risk mitigation activities.
    • Assist employees, vendors, and partners by answering questions related to information security processes and best practices.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Complete daily tasks, ticket queues, and monitoring responsibilities accurately and on time while delivering exceptional internal customer service.
    • Support ongoing security strategies and initiatives that align with enterprise standards, policies, and technology roadmaps.
    • Participate in afterhours or oncall responsibilities as needed to support critical issues.
  • Continuous Learning
    • Maintain awareness of current cybersecurity threats, industry trends, and evolving technlogies.
    • Engage in ongoing training to improve technical skills and contribute to the team's operational maturity.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support Cyber Defense operations and enterprise security programs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of IT experience required; information security experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in security operations, system administration, service desk escalation, application support, or testing is beneficial.
  • Experience in enterprise or corporate retail environments is a plus due to the scale and operational tempo of Discount Tire's footprint.
  • Technical Knowledge & Skills:
    • Foundational understanding of modern security technologies such as:
      • SIEM platforms (e.g., log analysis, alert triage, rulebased detections)
      • Endpoint protection tools
      • Malware detection and response technologies
      • Vulnerability management tools and remediation cycles
      • Cloud security monitoring concepts
    • Familiarity with incident response processes, alert workflows, ticket creation, escalation paths, and containment/verification best practices.
    • Awareness of industry security standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, CIS Controls, basic governance practices) is preferred.
    • Ability to analyze large data sets, alerts, or unstructured telemetry to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential security concerns.
    • Demonstrated capability to learn new security tools, detection techniques, and investigative methods in a fastmoving environment.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting incidents, updating stakeholders, and collaborating with IT partners.
    • Strong customerservice mindset with the ability to handle varied user situations while remaining professional, calm, and helpful.
    • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to nontechnical audiences when needed.
  • Professional & Analytical Skills
    • Strong problemsolving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate options and make informed recommendations.
    • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage shifting priorities, and meet deadlines without compromising accuracy.
    • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, often managing multiple alerts, tickets, or small projects simultaneously.
    • High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and respect for othersconsistent with Discount Tire's values and culture.
  • Tools & Productivity Skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) for reporting, documentation, and communication.
    • Ability to work in ticketing and workflow platforms (such as ServiceNow) is preferred.

Educational Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Work Days:

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.

Work Hours:

Normal work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime (more than forty hours per week) may be necessary.
