Senior IT SBS Platform Specialist

Under minimal supervision, the Senior IT Strategic Business Services (SBS) Platform Specialist leads the setup, configuration, and ongoing support of the virtual infrastructure leveraged by Discount Tire's Analytics teams. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and consistent provisioning of cloud infrastructure services to maintain a stable, secure, automated, scalable, and highly available environment supporting critical business analytics platforms and applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and implement secure and resilient AWS infrastructure (compute instances, web containers, databases, networking) including high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Own end-to-end lifecycle delivery for cloud infrastructure and platform services, from initial design and build through deployment, optimization, and ongoing support.
- Drive DevOps and CI/CD enablement, leveraging open-source tooling and automation best practices to improve speed, reliability, and consistency of deployments.
- Lead the design, deployment, and administration of scalable enterprise cloud environments supporting critical analytics platforms (Databricks, Tableau, Alteryx), with a strong focus on security, usability, and performance.
- Resolve escalated incidents and complex technical issues, performing root-cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes to ensure platform stability and SLA compliance.
- Partner with Analytics and Data Engineering teams to support complex cloud infrastructure initiatives and deliver reliable solutions for evolving business needs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership, engineering, architecture, and senior technical stakeholders to align infrastructure strategy and execution with enterprise goals.
- Mentor and train IT and business administrators, promoting best practices in cloud operations, governance, and platform adoption.
- Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex systems and identify opportunities for modernization and optimization.
- Provide technical input and documentation to support RFP/RFI responses, including platform capabilities, architecture approaches, and security standards.
- Maintain infrastructure-as-code standards and implement scalable automation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to ensure repeatable deployments.
- Lead structured cloud technology reviews for analytics environments, evaluating performance, cost, security, and reliability improvements.
- Develop technical recommendations for enhancements based on system requirements, business priorities, and long-term architecture strategy.
- Ensure all solutions meet design specifications and uphold enterprise standards for security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and trends, proactively recommending innovations that improve platform capabilities and reduce operational risk.
- Deliver high-quality work with strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, responsiveness, and exceptional customer support for internal stakeholders.
- Partner with DataOps and Data Engineering teams to support analytics lifecycle management, including platform upgrades, monitoring, and operational readiness.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of directly related experience supporting cloud infrastructure, virtualization, and enterprise platform environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, Redshift, Lambda, CloudFormation, and OpsWorks; Microsoft Azure experience preferred.
- Experience administering, securing, and supporting enterprise analytics and data platforms, such as Tableau, Databricks, Alteryx, MicroStrategy, Matillion, and Informatica.
- Solid understanding of operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux/Red Hat, and their performance and behavior within cloud and virtualized environments.
- Advanced knowledge of DevOps tools and best practices, including automation, orchestration, and CI/CD pipeline enablement.
- Proficiency with version control systems, such as Git and Bitbucket, including branching strategies and collaborative development workflows.
- Working knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Shell, JavaScript, or similar) to support automation, operational efficiencies, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Jira/Confluence, with experience operating within Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document solutions and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing competing priorities and multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- Retail IT experience preferred.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- AWS Associate-level certification required (Solutions Architect, Developer, or SysOps Administrator).
- Linux certification required.
- Professional certifications are a plus.
Work Days:
Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
Work Hours:
Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary.
