What’s the role?

The VP of Talent and Learning is a leadership position responsible for the People Care     Talent Management and Talent Acquisition team.  The successful candidate will lead our talent, recruiting and learning teams reporting to our People Care Business Segment Leader.  Our People Care segment is transforming to a COE (Centers of Expertise) and shared services based model.  This visionary position will help us on our journey to create and implement this new structure.  Strong partnering with our retail operations leaders and regional offices, as well as our corporate office will be needed.


What we’ll entrust you to do:

  • Co-create and execute Discount Tire’s multi-year enterprise talent strategy, working collaboratively with People Care leadership team members.
  • Create an agile and highly effective Talent Acquisition and Talent Management team by developing skills and competencies and providing career development opportunities into, out of and within the team.
  • Ensure effectiveness of the Performance Management program in setting appropriate performance expectations aligned with business needs, providing actionable and timely feedback and supporting development planning and compensation decisions.
  • Design, develop and implement a talent review process to enable the creation of an internal bench of top talent for enterprise wide development planning and “talent brokerage” that matches best-fit candidates for required roles.
  • Oversee the design, development and implementation of learning and development curricula, programs and courses for all employees.
  • Develop, initiate and maintain effective programs for workforce retention, promotion and succession planning.
  • Work with the People Care Business Partners to ensure that talent management initiatives are implemented consistently organization-wide and aligned on improving organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead the Talent Acquisition team to develop and implement creative and innovative sourcing strategies and techniques to build a pipeline of qualified candidates for current and anticipated needs.
  • Work with business segments and their Business Partners to forecast talent needs for the segment based on current workforce, anticipated demand from the business and supply from the labor market.
  • Convert forecasts into proactive workforce plans and/or recruitment strategies for specific talent segments.
  • Ensure the employment value proposition is well articulated, authentic and utilized in all recruiting efforts.
  • Develop trend analysis and reports on talent acquisition performance, including recent hire retention.

Job Requirements

What you’ll need to have for this position:

  • This position requires 10+ years of total relevant experience with at least five (5) years of talent management, talent acquisition and performance management experience.
  • Well versed in talent management and acquisition practices, retail learning organizations, leadership assessment and industrial-organizational research and methods
  • Experience managing recruiting and employer branding initiatives (preferably for retail organizations)
  • This position also requires excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, analytical, communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in business, human resources, organizational development or IO psychology preferred.
