Principal Business Systems Analyst - Point of Sale (POS) Systems

Working independently, the Business Systems Analyst Principal analyzes software, procedures and problems to automate new or enhance existing software applications/systems. The Principal Business Systems Analyst for POS Systems is a strategic leader responsible for driving the functional design and implementation of complex POS solutions. This role requires deep expertise in retail operations, POS systems, and software engineering principles. The Principal Analyst will act as a key liaison between business stakeholders and the development team, ensuring that POS solutions meet evolving business needs and enhance the customer experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the functional analysis of complex POS initiatives, aligning solutions with strategic retail goals and customer experience objectives.
- Analyze retail industry trends, competitor POS solutions, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Develop and maintain functional roadmaps for POS systems, ensuring alignment with business priorities. · Build and maintain strong relationships with retail operations, merchandising, and IT stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on POS systems.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and drive consensus among diverse stakeholder groups, including retail store personnel.
- Effectively communicate complex POS concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Research, recommend and develop functional designs; define business processes, improvements, and business objectives with focus on system capabilities and integration points.
- Partner with business and IT to ensure continuing delivery of new functionality at consistent if not increasing velocity.
- Collect, document and analyze new large and/or complex work requests to determine sizing and approach for potential solutions.
- Assist Leadership in prioritizing work requests, bug fixes and other initiatives as necessary.
- Consistently provide and vet options as necessary for solutions that address requirements as well as non-functional requirements while adhering to best practices around standardization, scalability and usability.
- Build, configure or partner with development to deliver and unit test quality and efficient functionality.
- Provide knowledge transfer to End Users, Support Team and Testing as necessary during for any functional remediation, change, enhancement or break fix.
- Serve as subject matter expert for Areas of Responsibility for their respective product organization.
- Provide documentation as necessary for the solution including but not limited to Business Process Design (BPD) Documents, Functional Specifications (F-Specs), End User System Procedures, End-to-end Business Process flows, User Stories, Knowledge Article and Deployment Scripts.
- Provide support for functions as necessary including training junior resources, business support, root cause analysis and corrective remediation for escalated problems and incidents.
- Provide a can-do attitude with a pragmatic balance of velocity, quality, best practices and prioritization.
- Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in functional analysis, with a strong focus on POS systems and retail operations.
- Deep understanding of retail industry trends, POS hardware and software, and payment processing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex retail needs into actionable POS solutions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with retail store personnel.
- Proven ability to influence and lead stakeholders at all levels, including retail executives.
- Experience with POS system integration, including payment gateways, inventory management, and CRM systems.
- Proficiency in requirements management tools and techniques, with a focus on retail-specific requirements.
- Experience mentoring and leading other analysts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integration points for transactional and master data
- Proven history of increasing responsibility and upward mobility in previous technical and functional roles
- Demonstrated expert understanding of Business Rules Framework, patches, upgrades and support packs.
- Ability to work independently and in a team is vital. Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, meet deadlines and present a professional demeanor is essential.
- Proven ability to respond to different organizational situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude is necessary.

Educational Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field or equivalent work experience.
